About Us

This is the bit where you write glowing histories and amusing anecdotes to make yourself sound interesting in the hope that people will read more about us…

…Well I guess i had better do the same then!

I am an ordinary chap, nothing special, I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon or in affluent surroundings. I went to school, I went to university, I went to work, got married (twice), had children and like most people I do the normal 9-5 things.

No different to anyone else, but then i have never professed to anything more!

I am, by experience and trade an IT professional, in my career I have done most things internet related, having started on this path back in the internet’s early days, when a web browser was Mosaic if you were being fancy or Lynx if you weren’t (old geeks will know this one!). Netscape was the new big thing and Microsoft was playing a drastic game of catch-up. Social media meant hanging around on newsgroups or bulletin boards, Zuckerberg was but a 10 year old when I started in the industry.

What I do hold my hands up to is the long held need and desire to achieve things and earn more money.

Sometimes this desire has lead me to follow a certain direction away from my comfort zone, I once opened a restaurant under the mistake belief of “doing it while I was young and stupid enough”, it failed. It failed because as much as I have drive and desire and energy, I am human and at the time i willingly admit to being crap at actual marketing. Crap maybe a harsh way of putting it though, naive, too trusting and a victim of the “build it and they will come” philosophy.

But you learn from your mistakes, what you learn is another story…

Its like when you fall off a bike, you get told to get back on. Well I fell of my bike loads as a kid and over the course of my childhood I broke my shoulder 4 times, as a result I didn’t get back on a bike for nearly 25 years and even now I am a very nervous bike rider!

What does happen is that you try and not make the same mistakes again, this can happen a number of ways. Firstly, make sure you get it right the next time, secondly persistence by trying again and again until you do get it right. Or lastly, and this one I have found myself guilty of a number of times, avoiding having to make those mistakes at all!

The last point is the important one, its self defeating, it stops you from doing things, holds you back. So never ever give up, by all means take a break, take a rest, turn your attentions to something else for awhile, but never give up.

Remember the quote by the inventor of the light bulb, Thomas A. Edison, he spent a long time trying to find the right element that would work and glow but not burn out “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

I may have found a number of ways to not do it but I still strive to learn and progress to get to my goal

So i continue to make achievements and endeavor to earn more money

This blog will be my ramblings on things that help or hinder me on this quest, if you read this and want to follow me please do and maybe share a thought or two of your own!

Thanks,

InternetEdge

PS. Why are you called InternetEdge?? Well it was the name of my first limited company many years ago when the internet was fresh. the dotcom boom was in full swing and I was sure I would make a fortune! I didn’t, but i did like the name!

So thats why, and in the spirit of nostalgia with this quote in mind from the late Terry Pratchet:

“If you do not know where you come from, then you don’t know where you are, and if you don’t know where you are, then you don’t know where you’re going. And if you don’t know where you’re going, you’re probably going wrong.”
